The TestDaF exam (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) is a German language examination for those who wish to obtain a certificate demonstrating a high level of German proficiency. It is intended for students who want to continue their studies in Germany and need an official document confirming their language skills. TestDaF is a centralised examination. The exam materials are prepared, marked and assessed by the TestDaF Institute in Germany, while the exam itself is held at licensed examination centres in around 80 countries worldwide. German language proficiency is not measured by a grade, but by levels.
The following TestDaF levels are available:
- TestDaF Level 5 (TDN 5)
- TestDaF Level 4 (TDN 4)
- TestDaF Level 3 (TDN 3)
Exam levels: B2, C1
The exam can be taken in Bulgaria. TestDaF is equivalent to DSH and exempts applicants from taking the DSH exam in Germany. The DSH exam can only be taken at higher education institutions and universities in Germany. The TestDaF certificate has no expiry date.
